Day 2: Fly to Kidepo Valley National Park

After breakfast, a driver will take you to Kajjansi airfield, where you’ll board a flight heading north to Kidepo Valley National Park on your Uganda Wildlife Viewing. The flight will last approximately 1.5 hours. Once you arrive, a representative from Apoka Lodge will be there to greet you and take you to the lodge.

In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to go on a thrilling game drive in the national park. This park is well-known for its remote and untouched setting, featuring vast open landscapes, rugged ridges, and serene grasslands. While exploring, you may even encounter majestic lions wandering the plains, with the stunning backdrop of distant hills.

The national park was established in 1962 with the aim of preserving the savannah located at the intersection of Uganda, Sudan, and Kenya. Please remember to switch off your flashlight while exploring the Ngarama Cave, as you will be able to experience the hauntingly beautiful singing that fills the darkness. Cooperation is essential for creating a fire! Observe the skilled Batwa leaders as they expertly create fires to safely extract wild bees. Observe the fascinating process of the Batwas constructing a traditional grass hut and later dismantling a structure that once played a vital role in their nomadic way of life.

Experience the vibrant dance at the entrance of the cave, accompanied by the melodic voices of the Batwa women, who joyfully serenade the arriving guests. Experience the breathtaking beauty of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park as you explore its stunning vistas of the Virunga Volcanoes. Golden Monkey Tracking

During the tour, you will have the opportunity to observe the golden monkeys up close in their natural habitat for an hour. Witness the enchanting sight of these gentle creatures in their natural habitat as they playfully explore the bamboo forest. Observe as nurturing mothers gracefully carry their young, delicately munching on bamboo leaves, all while feeling completely comfortable in your presence.

The monkeys are classified as endangered species by the World Conservation Union and are exclusive to the park. The vibrant orange-golden body, cheeks, and tail create a stunning contrast with the black limbs and tail end, making it a popular subject for photographers.

Volcano Climbing

Uganda is home to three out of the eight major Virunga volcanoes, namely Mt. Muhabura, Mt. Sabinyo, and Mt. Gahinga. There are multiple routes available, each varying in length and difficulty level. The summit stands at an impressive height of 3.645m and serves as a significant border crossing point between Uganda, Rwanda, and the Congo. The hike is quite challenging and will require approximately 7-8 hours to complete.
